FREDERICKSBURG, Va. Oct. 30, 2023 – Piloting an F-14 Tomcat from the deck of an aircraft carrier taught Carey Lohrenz that consistent execution in a fast-moving, dynamic environment is essential to avoid catastrophe.

Today she draws on skills honed as the Navy’s first female fighter pilot for the F-14 Tomcat to help businesses succeed.

Lohrenz, a former Navy lieutenant, will serve as keynote speaker for ATSSA’s 2024 Annual Convention & Traffic Expo, scheduled for Feb. 2-6 in San Diego. In her discussion of “High Risk Into High Reward: Succeeding in High Pressure Environments,” Lohrenz will share tips for business leaders to inspire their teams to “move to higher levels of performance, even during times of disruption and chaos.”

She understands the critical importance of teamwork and how to establish a culture of innovation and will share stories from operating in a cockpit at Mach 2.

Lohrenz, who served in the Navy for nine years, began her naval career following graduation from the University of Wisconsin and is currently pursuing an MBA in strategic leadership. She has shared lessons on leadership, teamwork, reducing errors and obstacles with companies including Cisco, Dell, TEVA and Deloitte.

The theme of ATSSA’s 54th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo is innovating roadways, advancing safety and enhancing infrastructure. In addition to the keynote address delivered by Lohrenz, the event will include a legislative insight session, more than 40 education sessions, the perennially popular Circle of Innovation featuring the latest advances in roadway safety infrastructure, the annual New Products Rollout where the industry solutions for roadway safety are presented, and a massive display of the latest vehicles, tools and technology to advance roadway safety.

ATSSA’s 2023 Convention & Traffic Expo brought together more than 3,700 roadway safety industry professionals and more than 220 exhibitors at the largest exposition of its kind in North America. Registration is now open for the event taking place at the San Diego Convention Center.
