Growing our membership

An association’s membership reflects its reach, its ability to affect change in the industry, its leadership and its power when advocating for policy. In 2024, we grew our company members to more than 825 and expanded our footprint by adding more than 115 new branch locations, with notable gains in Manufacturers & Services, Traffic Safety, and Public Agency.

ATSSA's chapters are a vital component to success, providing essential grassroots support and fostering a strong sense of community among roadway safety professionals at the local and regional levels. Our chapters held 75 meetings and events in 2024, with a 20% increase in overall chapter-level participation.

Preparing workers for the roadway

In 2024, ATSSA reaffirmed its position as a leader in roadway safety training, certifying over 41,000 flaggers and nearly 15,000 technicians and supervisors. This commitment to excellence translates to safer work zones across the country and equips our members and students with the skills and credentials to thrive in the industry. Looking ahead, ATSSA will continue to develop innovative training solutions to address emerging challenges and ensure the highest standards of roadway safety.

advocating for roadway safety

Advocacy is a cornerstone of ATSSA's mission to improve roadway safety. Our efforts span from engaging with federal agencies to influencing state legislation, ensuring a comprehensive approach to protecting workers and enhancing work zone safety across the nation. By collaborating closely with our members, leveraging their expertise, and amplifying their voices, we effectively advocate for policies that create safer work zones and support the success of the roadway safety industry. In 2024, our efforts focused on engaging with federal agencies, influencing national policies, and championing legislation in key states. convening industry experts for knowledge sharing

ATSSA's 54th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo held Feb. 2-6 in San Diego shattered attendance records, reaffirming its status as the premier event for the roadway infrastructure safety industry in North America. With a focus on 'Innovating Roadways. Advancing Safety. Enhancing Infrastructure,' the event brought together professionals from across the globe to explore the latest technologies, learn from industry experts and collaborate on solutions to enhance roadway safety. The 2024 event included more than 4,000 registrants – an ATSSA record – and more than 650 first-time attendees.

Exhibiting at the Annual Convention & Traffic Expo provides companies with business potential to showcase the latest products and innovations in roadway safety infrastructure and facilitates meetings with key decision makers, DOT officials, manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and more. This year’s event included more than 225 exhibiting companies and 260 public officials from 46 states.

advancing through innovation

ATSSA’s Innovation & Technical Services (ITS) Team advances roadway safety by providing timely support on a diverse array of complex technical topics to ATSSA members, staff and the industry with the goal of saving lives on the nation’s roadways. The team investigates and disseminates information about emerging safety technologies and products to help speed their implementation in real-world settings. The team seeks to influence the future of roadway infrastructure through all it does, including representing the Association at meetings throughout the year where it both shares and gathers information, helping lead the discussion on roadway safety. In 2024, the ITS team represented ATSSA at more than 25 industry events and provided insight and technical guidance on artificial intelligence, personal protective equipment, speed safety cameras, and more.
