Las actividades de mantenimiento de carreteras ocurren muy cerca del tránsito y crean un ambiente potencialmente peligroso para trabajadores, conductores y el personal de emergencias. En muchos casos, se requerirá una zona de control temporal de tránsito (TTC) tanto para proteger a trabajadores y a personal de emergencias como para permitir el desplazamiento eficiente y seguro de los usuarios de la vía a través o alrededor de las zonas TTC.
