Safety Cloud earns Innovation Award at ATSSA Convention & Traffic Expo

Three products earn honorable mentions from transportation panel

ORLANDO, Florida (March 3, 2025) – Safety Cloud by HAAS Alert, a connected vehicle and digital alert system, received the Innovation Award at ATSSA’s 55th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo  today with three other new products designed to improve roadway safety recognized for honorable mention.

Safety Cloud is deployed globally in work zones, public safety, tow and roadside services, and transportation, utility and fleet organizations. The vehicle-to-everything (V2X) platform broadcasts real-time alerts from equipped service vehicles to approaching automobile drivers through in-dash infotainment systems and navigation apps. Notifications arrive up to 30 seconds before the driver approaches an incident.

The alert system reduces the risk of collision, injury or death by as much as 90% and is produced by Chicago-based Haas Alert.

The Innovation Award winner was chosen from among 20 entries in ATSSA’s 2025 New Products Rollout (NPRO). The products were presented by companies from the U.S. and abroad and were evaluated by a panel made up of department of transportation (DOT) representatives from across the country.

Products considered for the Innovation Award were judged on the criteria of lifesaving qualities, degree of need, innovation, design and eligibility under the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). All products were also evaluated on their contribution to the industry’s mission of advancing roadway safety and working Toward Zero Deaths.

The following products were chosen for honorable mention:

  • StripeBot by Apex Waterjetting of Palm City, Florida. StripeBot is an automated pavement marking removal tool designed to increase safety and precision. It features autonomous steering and adjustable speed and effectively removes all types of pavement markings. Additionally, it can be tethered to any water blasting system on the market.
  • SecurOS® Soffit by ISS of Woodbridge, New Jersey. This is an advanced AI-driven detection system designed to enhance safety for pedestrians and vulnerable road users (VRUs) using dynamic illumination at signalized intersections and midblock crossings. The system comes with an Internet Protocol (IP) camera, lighting array and a video analytics controller built into a weather-proof cabinet, and provides high-precision detection and real-time data, providing increased safety of people and cyclists in all conditions. The SecurOS® Soffit integrates with existing traffic systems, allowing proactive, data-informed safety measures to reduce collision risks and improve urban mobility.
  • Work Zone Live by Ver-Mac of Quebec, Canada. This creates a digital twin of work zone signage and communicates information to relevant parties by automatically detecting and reporting the real-time location of work zone traffic control signs. Without altering the usual deployment processes and at a low cost, workers can monitor a work zone’s boundaries, as well as critical elements that impact motorists such as speed changes and lane shifts. This information is seamlessly integrated with systems like the work zone data exchange (WZDx) and Waze.

The Innovation Award winner was announced on the Traffic Expo floor following a New Products Tour in which Convention participants had the opportunity to see each product and learn how it contributes to the industry.

ATSSA Director of Innovation & Technical Services Eric Perry announced the winner and honorable mentions during a special session held on the Traffic Expo floor where all attendees could learn about the products.

“We had a tremendous response from the industry this year in our New Products Rollout, with 20 entries,” Perry said. “This year’s entries focused on the introduction of cutting-edge roadside safety hardware, advanced temporary traffic control measures and innovative pavement marking systems, with hopes of ushering in a new era in roadway safety. These advancements could not only enhance the safety of our roadways but also significantly improve worker protection, ensuring a safer environment for everyone.”

ATSSA’s Innovation Awards are given each year as part of the Association’s Annual Convention & Traffic Expo. This year’s event began on Friday and runs through Tuesday at the Orange County Convention Center.

“With so many outstanding products entered, the judges had a tough time selecting just one winner,” Perry said. “This highlights the incredible innovation within our industry, as we strive to eliminate fatalities, both directly and indirectly.”

“The New Products Rollout is held annually to give the industry an opportunity to showcase its new, innovative ideas for roadway safety,” Perry said. “Judges evaluate these products with an eye toward recognizing the ones that hold the greatest potential for saving lives on the nation’s roadways. It’s interesting to see from year-to-year the new ideas that have emerged.”
