ATSSA notes passing of former Association, NCUTCD executive Bob Garrett

Bob Garrett

Robert M. “Bob” Garrett, who served as the first chief executive of ATSSA until 1998, passed away Thursday at age 88.

After retiring from his position as executive director of ATSSA, Garrett went on to serve for 22 years as executive secretary of the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD). His involvement with the NCUTCD began in 1973 and ended in 2020, according to current NCUTCD Executive Secretary Richard C. Moeur. Garrett was an Honorary Emeritus Member of the NCUTCD and its longest-serving executive secretary, Moeur noted.

“ATSSA celebrates Bob Garrett’s contributions to the roadway safety infrastructure industry and his dedication as a leader in the effort to save lives on the nation’s roadways,” said ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner. “He helped launch ATSSA more than 50 years ago and played a key role in developing our Association into what it is today.”

Details on memorial services were not expected until next week.
