This 2026 case study, completed by the ATSSA Innovation & Technical Services team, highlights a selection of innovative devices that help agencies meet the necessary requirements of the 2022 Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Rule on Maintaining Pavement Marking Retroreflectivity and the 11th Edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) to improve roadway safety. Several of these devices have received recognition for their contributions to roadway safety through ATSSA’s New Products Rollout as well as the Innovation Awards and honorable mentions.

The solutions within this case study enhance the installation, removal and maintenance of both permanent and temporary pavement markings while also improving worker safety and application quality and durability.
