Boudreau elected NCUTCD chair at today’s annual meeting

Neil Boudreau

ATSSA member Neil Boudreau today was elected chair of the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD).

Boudreau is assistant administrator for traffic and safety with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and a winner of ATSSA’s National Safety Award in 2023.

The National Safety Award recognizes an employee or recent retiree of a government agency who made a significant contribution to the safety of our nation’s highways.

ATSSA Director of Innovation & Technical Services Eric Perry is attending the NCUTCD annual meeting in Arlington, Va., where Boudreau was elected chair and offered his congratulations.

“This recognition reflects not only his expertise, but also his steady commitment to improving roadway safety and advancing the standards that guide our industry,” Perry said.

The NCUTCD, often referred to as the “National Committee,” is an organization whose purpose is to assist in the development of standards, guides and warrants for traffic control devices and practices used to regulate, warn and guide traffic on streets and highways. It  recommends to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and other agencies proposed revisions and interpretations to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other accepted national standards.

Boudreau has been employed by MassDOT since 1995 and is active in roadway safety efforts in a variety of ways, including having represented MassDOT on the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Committee on Traffic Engineering, chairing the Temporary Traffic Control Technical Committee of NCUTCD,  co-chairing the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx) Work Zone Device Feed Committee and playing an instrumental role in the review of the proposed Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for both MassDOT and for part 6 for the NCUTCD.

At ATSSA, his involvement has included serving on the Innovation Council, as a friend of the Temporary Traffic Control Committee and on the Board of the New England ATSSA Chapter.
