Lipinski discussing details of a highway funding bill If you missed yesterday’s virtual Town Hall with Rep. Dan Lipinski and ATSSA Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith discussing highway funding and the INVEST in America Act, you can watch it now. ATSSA’s recording of Tuesday’s session, “INVEST in America Act: An Inside Look at the Highway Bill,” is available now. On June 3, the Democratic leadership of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee released proposed legislation to reauthorize the federal transportation program through Fiscal Year 2025. That bill, Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America Act (INVEST in America Act), was introduced by Committee Chair Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Highways and Transit Subcommittee Chair Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), and Lipinski, who chairs the Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee.. The proposal authorizes federal transportation funding for five years, at a total of $494 billion, $319 billion of which will be for highway investments. ATSSA launched virtual Town Halls as another service to its members. The first one on April 14 dealt with infrastructure funding and the government’s response to COVID-19. It featured ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner and ATSSA Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith conversing with AASHTO Executive Director Jim Tymon and Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Pa., who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee. A recording of that Town Hall is available. A recording is also available of the April 28 Town Hall focused on ATSSA’s new training options, which enable members to continue training amid social distancing guidelines. That session focused on new virtual and online options and included Cindy Williams, President, Time Striping Inc.; Dave Waldo, T2/LTAP Manager, Alaska Department of Transportation; Eric Perry, ATSSA Master Instructor and Director of Innovation & Technical Services; and Jessica Scheyder, ATSSA Training Program Manager.
