ATSSA Midyear Meeting: Sailing toward the future of roadway safety infrastructure

Join the association to advance the future of roadway safety infrastructure

About 300 ATSSA members from across the country will gather in San Diego, California from Aug. 21-23 to participate in association committee and council meetings to make their voices heard and help shape the future of the roadway safety industry, while focusing on the goal of moving Toward Zero Deaths on the nation’s roadways.

In addition to committee and council meetings, the Midyear Meeting will have opportunities for ATSSA members to connect and get involved in various initiatives including the standardization of Traffic Control Devices (TCD), supporting legislative efforts to gain more funding for the improvement of roadway infrastructure, and strengthening the engagement between Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) and roadway infrastructure.

“ATSSA’s annual Midyear Meeting is a great opportunity for our members to hold important discussions about the leading issues and advancements within the roadway safety and infrastructure industry,” said ATSSA Vice President of Member Services Donna Clark. “These events are critical in developing the association’s initiatives and advancing roadway safety. We are looking forward to meeting with ATSSA members and encourage those who have not yet attended to join us in San Diego this summer.”

Some highlights of the event include ATSSA’s Annual Instructor’s Meeting, the Traffic Signals Working Group meeting, the ATSSA PAC Fundraising Reception, and the Twisted Bowling Tournament.

ATSSA’s Training department will host the semi-annual Instructors Meeting concurrently with the Midyear Meeting on Aug. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“The Annual Instructors Meeting is a very productive time for our trainers,” said ATSSA Director of Training Jessica Scheyder. “One of our big focuses is nationwide standardization for traffic devices and installation and roadway maintenance. Our goal is to ensure all roadway workers are properly trained to correctly complete projects as safely as possible.”

In an effort to support ATSSA’s advocacy work and commitment to elected officials who understand the importance of roadway safety and infrastructure, ATSSA members are invited to attend a reception for the ATSSA PAC on Aug. 21 from 6 to 7 p.m.

“ATSSA’s government relations team is looking forward to hosting the upcoming PAC Fundraising Reception,” said ATSSA Director of Government Relations David Bell. “The reception is expected to draw a crowd consisting of ATSSA membership and members of Congress and serves as a reminder of how reaching out to legislators at all levels of government is a key element in advancing roadway safety and infrastructure.”

The second annual Twisted Bowling Tournament will be held on Aug. 22 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event, named for its "twisted" scoring system, is being sponsored by the California Chapter of ATSSA, with all proceeds benefiting The Foundation.

“The first-ever bowling event was a great success last year and we expect this year’s tournament to be the same,” said ATSSA Director of Member Engagement Rita Rose. “Not only is this a great opportunity to network with fellow industry members but participants are supporting The Foundation’s many programs that help the loved ones of roadway workers.”
