ATSSA strives to keep roadway safety on the minds of stakeholders from legislators on Capitol Hill to officials with Departments of Transportation (DOTs) across the country. Therefore, the Association advocates for funds available through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), a core federal aid program created to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on all public roads including non-state-owned roads and roads of tribal or Indian lands.

A bill passed in Washington State will provide educational opportunities to the loved ones of highway workers killed or permanently disabled in roadway crashes.

This morning, Jay Bruemmer, Vice President of K&G Striping, Inc. and a member of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA),  testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Subcommittee on Highways and Transit hearing titled, “Every Life Counts: Improving the Safety of our Nation’s Roadways.”

The Ohio Chapter of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (OH-ATSSA) urges the Ohio General Assembly to resuscitate Governor DeWine’s original 18-cent per gallon fuel tax increase to address the anticipated shortfall in transportation funding and resources for new projects designed to increase capacity and relieve congestion on Ohio’s roads, as well as maintain and update existing bridges and roadways.

Advancing roadway safety. That was the mission for the ATSSA Texas Chapter’s recent advocacy day at the Texas State Capitol. That passion and effort is already making a difference in the state, as Texas Representative Mike Lang (R-Texas) has introduced House Bill 1226 – legislation which would include Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractors in the state’s “slow down/move over” law.

ATSSA’s Government Relations team and the CAL-ATSSA chapter are working together to advocate against the repeal of a recently passed state gas tax increase that funds roadway infrastructure maintenance and repair.
