ATSSA unveils Roadway Safety magazine

Flagship publication is redesigned & renamed to highlight ATSSA’s core purpose

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Jan. 20, 2021) – The American Traffic Safety Services Association today unveiled its new membership magazine, Roadway Safety. The magazine was redesigned and renamed to better reflect the Association’s core purpose, which is to advance roadway safety.

The magazine will be distributed quarterly, with the inaugural issue online today. Supplements will accompany the magazine twice each year. ATSSA sought input from members and internal stakeholders in undertaking a new vision for the publication, previously known as The Signal. The redesign also includes a new direction for content. Articles will focus on industry trends, business issues and roadway safety innovations rather than events, which will be highlighted in other forms of communication such as the ATSSA blog, website and social media channels including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Jan. 7, 2021) – The American Traffic Safety Services Association  selected nine companies to participate in its 2021 New Products Rollout  event, which is held in conjunction with the 51st Annual Convention & Traffic Expo being held online over two weeks in February.

Typically, more than 3,700 people attend the largest roadway safety tradeshow in North America to see some of the latest innovations in the roadway safety infrastructure industry. The products submitted as part of NPRO are comprised of a wide range of devices designed to save lives on our nation’s roadways.

This year’s Convention is being held Feb. 8-12 and 16-18.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Dec. 14, 2020) – ATSSA kicks off its 51st Annual Convention & Traffic Expo with a Roadway Worker Protection Summit, going to the heart of the Association’s lifesaving mission.

The Summit features a panel discussion in which two ATSSA members share the painful experience of losing an employee in a work zone incident. They will discuss resources that helped the employee’s family and their team through the aftermath. They also will talk about tips and tools aimed at preventing work zone injuries and deaths such as training, certification and equipment.

The two-hour Summit is the first session of the 2021 Convention & Traffic Expo, which is being held online over two weeks -- Feb. 8-12 and 16-18.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Dec. 7, 2020) – ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner announced a realignment of two of the Association’s vice presidents to better serve its members and most effectively address the multitude of vital issues facing the roadway safety infrastructure industry.

“This decision was made to address the many issues we face as an industry devoted to working toward zero deaths. I wanted to best utilize the talented people we have on our team,” Tetschner said.

Nate Smith’s role will expand to include Member Engagement as he continues leading ATSSA’s Government Relations strategy. Donna Clark becomes Vice President of Education and Technical Services.

ATSSA’s annual Convention & Traffic Expo will go fully virtual for 2021.

“It’s vital to stay connected as we continue the critical work of advancing roadway safety. Our team is planning an industry-leading virtual event that will be timely, engaging and highlight the latest products, services, trends and education during the 51st Annual Convention & Traffic Expo,” ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner said. “Our work is essential and the value of this type of collaboration cannot be overstated as we work Toward Zero Deaths.”

Dates for the 2021 Convention & Traffic Expo have adjusted for the virtual format to provide all of the elements that make this the premier event of the roadway safety industry. It will be held in February over a two-week period to make it convenient and readily accessible for everyone.

ATSS Foundation announces Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship recipients

Scholarships awarded to 14 students for 2020-21 academic year

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (June 3, 2020) – The American Traffic Safety Services Foundation awarded 14 Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarships and three Chuck Bailey Memorial Scholarships to college and university students around the country for the 2020-21 academic year.

The Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program provides financial assistance for post-high school education to dependents of roadway workers killed or permanently disabled in roadway work zones. The program is competitive and provides scholarships with values up to $10,000 per student each year. Applicants who demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteerism may be eligible for an additional $1,000 in honor of Chuck Bailey, a member of the roadway safety industry who died in 2002.

3M Pledge Wall raises nearly $18,000 for ATSS Foundation

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (March 4, 2020) – The American Traffic Safety Services Foundation is pleased to announce that 3M raised $17,791 during the month of January, including during ATSSA’s 50th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo in New Orleans.

This was the fifth year 3M has hosted a pledge wall at the convention to support The Foundation’s programs. The St. Paul, Minn.-based company sponsored the pledge wall and matched donations up to $5,000.

ATSSA announces Tetschner as new president and CEO

Tetschner will succeed longtime president Roger Wentz

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Feb. 6, 2020) – The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) announces the appointment of Stacy Tetschner as president and CEO, effective March 16. Tetschner succeeds Roger Wentz who is retiring after more than 22 years as president and CEO. Tetschner most recently served as president and CEO of the United Motorcoach Association (UMA). 

Tetschner is a seasoned and credentialed association professional with 20 years of experience as a CEO. He began his tenure at UMA in June of 2017 following a nationwide search. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), as well as a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives (FASAE).

ATSSA Announces Innovation Awards at 50th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Jan. 28, 2020) – Three exhibitors at ATSSA’s 50th Annual Convention & Traffic Expo received Innovation Awards today in recognition of new products created by their companies that contribute to the industry’s mission of advancing roadway safety and working Toward Zero Deaths. Products from Royal Innovative Solutions, Pi Variables and VER-MAC were selected as first, second and third place, respectively. They were chosen on the criteria of lifesaving qualities, degree of need, innovation, design and eligibility under the Highway Safety Improvement Program. 

 

Traffic Control Device Challenge winners honored at ATSSA’s 50th Anniversary Convention & Traffic Expo

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Jan. 27, 2020) – The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), in partnership with the National Academy of Sciences’ Transportation Research Board (TRB), honored the winners of the Traffic Control Device Challenge (TCD Challenge) today during a ceremony at the Association’s 50th Anniversary Convention & Traffic Expo. Engineering students from across the U.S. competed in the TCD Challenge, which was titled: “Connected and Autonomous Innovations for Improving Work Zone Safety.”
