FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (Dec. 7, 2020) – ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner announced a realignment of two of the Association’s vice presidents to better serve its members and most effectively address the multitude of vital issues facing the roadway safety infrastructure industry.

“This decision was made to address the many issues we face as an industry devoted to working toward zero deaths. I wanted to best utilize the talented people we have on our team,” Tetschner said.

Nate Smith’s role will expand to include Member Engagement as he continues leading ATSSA’s Government Relations strategy. Donna Clark becomes Vice President of Education and Technical Services.

ATSSA’s next Town Hall brings together industry leaders and ATSSA team members to discuss how The Association has pivoted to meet members’ training and certification needs in unprecedented times.

The April 28 session on “Innovations in Online Training to Keep Your Employees Engaged" includes a demonstration of virtual training and insights from ATSSA Master Instructor Eric Perry, who also serves as The Association’s director of innovation and technical services.

Registration is now open for ATSSA's debut virtual Town Hall to be held this Tuesday. ATSSA’s new President & CEO Stacy Tetschner and ATSSA Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith will be joined by AASHTO Executive Director Jim Tymon and U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Pa., who serves on the Ways and Means Committee.

The conversation will focus on the state and federal response to COVID-19 and potential infrastructure investments. 

With restrictions imposed by the government for social distancing, ATSSA has quickly responded with two new options to enable members to continue meeting their training needs.

ATSSA now offers virtual training for the Traffic Control Technician (TCT) and Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) courses. In addition, The Association launched a new online workplace training curriculum that is offered totally online and covers human resources and workplace safety topics.

In response to government guidelines requesting social distancing, ATSSA is now offering virtual training for two of its classroom courses.

Virtual training is now offered for the Traffic Control Technician (TCT) and Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) courses, with the first one scheduled for April 13. ATSSA has adjusted both courses to meet the needs of individual states.

An ATSSA survey shows nearly half of its members remained on the job with regular operations after restrictions went into place as a result of COVID-19.

Members had the opportunity to respond to the survey between March 18 and 25 and were provided seven options as to how their business or agency was handling operations under the COVID-19 restrictions imposed by the federal and state governments.

In response to the global pandemic, ATSSA’s Training Department is accelerating release of one of its new online courses.

The Training Department had been slated to launch a new segment of online training addressing  human resources and workplace safety issues later this spring but out of heightened concerns for the health and safety of members amid COVID-19, Vice President of Member Services Donna Clark authorized early release of one course. The pandemic-related course is offered for free to members through April.

ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner released a statement to members today reinforcing the Association’s support for members and informing them of its current telework process for staff.

“We know you are dealing with unprecedented challenges as our nation feels the enormous impact of COVID-19. We want you to know that our team is continuing to work full-time to deliver the support you need, even as we work remotely in recognition of national and state guidelines geared at stopping the spread of this potentially deadly virus,” Tetschner wrote.

More than 300 ATSSA members convened in San Diego, California for the association’s 2019 Midyear Meeting, where they participated in committee and council meetings, established a Traffic Signals Committee, met with the Automotive Safety Council (ASC), and raised funds for legislative advocacy efforts and the ATSS Foundation.

It started when he worked with ATSSA, The ATSS Foundation, and his friends and colleagues to establish the Marty Weed Engineering Scholarship in 2018. The funding provides ten years’ worth of scholarships to new engineers at public agencies to attend ATSSA’s Annual Convention and Traffic Expo.
