ATSSA has postponed two major events scheduled for this spring in the wake of COVID-19. The Legislative Briefing & Fly-In scheduled for April 22-23 has been delayed by five months to Sept. 9-10. The Safer Roads 2020 International Conference scheduled for May 12-14 in Richmond, Va., has been postponed by six months to November. An exact date will be announced once it is confirmed.

This morning, Jay Bruemmer, Vice President of K&G Striping, Inc. and a member of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA),  testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Subcommittee on Highways and Transit hearing titled, “Every Life Counts: Improving the Safety of our Nation’s Roadways.”

Advancing roadway safety. That was the mission for the ATSSA Texas Chapter’s recent advocacy day at the Texas State Capitol. That passion and effort is already making a difference in the state, as Texas Representative Mike Lang (R-Texas) has introduced House Bill 1226 – legislation which would include Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contractors in the state’s “slow down/move over” law.

On Nov. 6, 113 million Americans went to the polls to vote in federal, state, and local elections. This represents 49 percent of eligible voters.

It’s three weeks until Election Day – the end of TV and radio political campaign ads is almost upon us! With 21 days to go, I wanted to give a snapshot as to where the elections seem to be heading as of today. Caveat – three weeks for a political campaign equals a lifetime.

ATSSA’s Government Relations team and the CAL-ATSSA chapter are working together to advocate against the repeal of a recently passed state gas tax increase that funds roadway infrastructure maintenance and repair.

On Tuesday, Feb. 13, American Traffic Safety Services Association’s (ATSSA) Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith spoke to ATSSA members on Facebook Live about the  newly released infrastructure proposal from The White House.

David J. Bell joined ATSSA in January 2018 as Director of Government Relations. Bell will develop federal advocacy activities in support of ATSSA’s legislative objectives and advance roadway safety on Capitol Hill.  

The House of Representatives yesterday passed an overhaul to the U.S. tax code in the form of HR 1 – the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
