The “Safety Benefits of Median Barrier and Roadside Guardrail” case study was completed in partnership between ATSSA and Auburn University. The “Guardrails” publication features several “success stories” whereby a road users’ life was saved due to the successful performance of guardrail and median barriers. The case study also looks at the different types of median barriers and guardrails commonly found on roadways. “It is the hope of ATSSA’s Board of Directors that these case study projects will help advance roadway safety by informing you on these proven methods applied to our roadway systems,” stated ATSSA President Roger Wentz in a recent letter to ATSSA’s member companies. This free digital release to the public is special to the “Guardrails” case study. All ATSSA case studies are made available to members as a benefit of ATSSA membership. ATSSA has approximately 1,500-member companies. At the Annual Convention & Traffic Expo, ATSSA also released two additional case studies; “Advanced Technologies for Preventing Work Zone Intrusions,” which focuses on technology to protect road workers and drivers in work zones and “Complete Streets: Opportunities for Growth in Roadway Access and Safety,” which examines design features and improvements applied to the roadways of cities across the U.S. to improve the mobility of all roadway users.
