Each year, ATSSA members from across the country come together in Washington, D.C. to speak to their elected representatives about roadway safety infrastructure and share statistics and stories that demonstrate the need for additional investment in making our roadways safer. “You won’t find any disagreement, whether [the representative is] Republican or Democrat, that our infrastructure is in need of help, and that’s the goal of the event,” said ATSSA’s Chair Juan Arvizu. Last year, 90 ATSSA members – including 21 first-time attendees – from 33 states represented the association in meetings with elected officials, completing an impressive 125 meetings in just eight hours. “It’s really exciting to see our members – especially our new members, our first-time attendees – be able to come and enjoy themselves. They also get to see the power our association has in Washington, D.C., and that’s only strengthened when they come to D.C. to meet with their Congressmen,” said ATSSA’s Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith. Before visiting elected officials for meetings, all ATSSA members are prepared at the Legislative Briefing, given information that will assist in conveying the importance of roadway safety infrastructure improvements and how ATSSA member companies contribute to reducing injuries and fatalities on our nation’s roadways. “Our industry is very dependent on the decisions that are made here at the federal level – as well as at the state level – and so we’ve learned over the years our activeness here on Capitol Hill really starts to trickle down at the state levels and grows each of our businesses, and helps save lives in each of our states,” said Dane Alsabrook of Ennis-Flint.
