(January 4, 2019) – The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) congratulates Representative Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) on his selection as Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (T&I Committee). DeFazio was elected by the Democratic caucus this morning to serve as chairman of the committee. "We are approaching a transportation crisis in our country. As chairman, I will be a tireless advocate for the kind of infrastructure investment that results in job creation, increased economic growth, and decreased emissions,” stated DeFazio in a statement following the election. ATSSA is the leader in the roadway safety infrastructure industry, serving more than 1,500 member companies with the common goal of advancing roadway safety and moving Toward Zero Deaths on our nation’s roadways. “As a 2016 recipient of ATSSA’s Roadway Safety Champion Award, Chairman DeFazio truly understands that making our infrastructure safer is the top priority for America’s transportation network. The T&I Committee will be working to craft an infrastructure package and a surface transportation authorization in the coming months, and ATSSA’s members are eager to work with the Chairman on meaningful, sustainably-funded roadway safety infrastructure policies,” said ATSSA President and CEO Roger Wentz. ATSSA has worked with DeFazio extensively on transportation issues and looks forward to working with him further in his role as chairman. “Chairman DeFazio’s remarks following his election as chairman demonstrate his commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs, and with items like an infrastructure package, the expiration of the FAST Act, and long-term solvency of the Highway Trust Fund on the table, ATSSA will be working to ensure that roadway safety infrastructure is a big part of that conversation. We know that safer roads save lives,” said ATSSA Vice President of Government Relations Nate Smith. Previous Article 2018 Midterm Elections – what happened?
