Work Zone Safety Grant FAQs
1. What courses will be taught?
To begin with:
- Traffic Control Technician
- Traffic Control Supervisor
- Flagger – Train the Trainer
- Emergency Traffic Control for Emergency Responders
- Safe and Effective Use of Law Enforcement Personnel in Work Zone
- Design and Operation of Nighttime Temporary Traffic Control in Work Zones
- What Every Supervisor Should Know
- Utility Operations
2. Where will the courses be held?
Initial training efforts will focus on 16 states identified by FHWA as having opportunities to make significant progress toward national road safety goals. Those states include: AL, AZ, CA, FL, IL, KY, LA, MS, MO, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, WI. Since this is a four-year grant, our strategy will be to hit all 50 states by year four.
3. What is the course schedule?
The course schedule will be determined based upon strategy meetings with the FHWA which will occur in October. Initially, courses will begin under the grant in the fall of 2007.
4. How do I sign up?
Marketing pieces and registrations will be mailed in the spring of 2007. Registration forms will be on our website at www.atssa.com or you can call our training line at (877) 642-4637.
5. What will the courses cost?
Most courses will cost $25 for public officials and $50 for all others..
6. Will this affect my certification?
No.
7. Who will teach the courses?
Current ATSSA instructors and partner instructors.
8. Do you have openings for more instructors?
Not right now but maybe in the future.
9. Are these courses different from ATSSA’s existing courses?
No.
10. If I am a Flagger trainer, how will this effect me or my students?
Should not have any effect on you or your students.
11. Does the work zone safety training grant cover additional activities?
Yes, the identification and development of work zone safety guidelines and the development of additional training courses.
