DESCRIPTION
Florida Restricted Activities Course
This 8-hour course is required for all persons working in Florida with direct responsibility for placement of work zone traffic control devices for minor work (normally utility operations) where the work activity utilizes only work zone setups covered in 2006 Design Standards Indexes 601, 602, 603, 604, 605, 611, 612, 613, 615, 616, 635 and 660, in accordance with Index 600 requirements. (NOTE: These setups normally apply to utility operations.) For work zone setups other than those specifically covered in these indexes, Intermediate or Advance Training is required as applicable.
The following Florida Design Standards will be addressed in detail:
o 600: General Information
o 601: 2-Lane, Two-Way, Work Outside Shoulder
o 602: 2-Lane, Two-Way, Work On Shoulder
o 603: 2-Lane, Two-Way, Work Within The Travel Way
o 604: 2-Lane, Two-Way, Work In Intersection
o 605: 2-Lane, Two-Way, Work Near Intersection
o 611: Multilane, Work Outside Shoulder
o 612: Multilane, Work On Shoulder
o 613: Multilane, Work Within the Travel Way - Median Or Outside Lane
o 615: Multilane, Work In Intersection
o 616: Multilane, Work Near Intersection - Median Or Outside Lane
o 635: Work in Vicinity of Railroad Crossing
o 660: Pedestrian Control For Closure Of Sidewalks
All students will view, understand, and use non-textual visual information through the use of an illustrated PowerPoint presentation and a hands-workshop. Areas to be covered will be the FDS indexed listed above (in detail) and student participation in a workshop exercise selecting and setting up sample work zones. Flagging operations will be covered in enough detail that a person who successfully completes this course is capable of providing basic flagger training.
