The American Traffic Safety Services Foundation
Mission:
The American Traffic Safety Services Foundation exists to promote and enhance the roadway safety industry through charitable giving and public awareness programs.
Vision:
Through activities of the Foundation, roadway safety has become a cultural priority. The public is aware of the need for roadway safety. Fallen workers are not forgotten and their families are supported. Decision-makers are motivated to invest in sustaining our message and advancing our mission. Improved safety on our roadways has resulted in a decline in work zone injuries and deaths.
Since its inception in 1988, the Foundation has been passionate about assisting others. The Foundation continues to lead the way to "Advancing Roadway Safety" through such programs as:
"The Roadway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program" - The scholarship is awarded to children of workers killed or permanently disabled in work zone accidents, as well as parents with custody or legal guardianship of surviving children. The scholarship program gives these often forgotten victims an opportunity to continue to meet their educational goals. We are accepting applications through February 2009.
“The National Work Zone Memorial - Respect And Remembrance: Reflections Of Life On The Road” program - This traveling memorial recognizes those workers, drivers, passengers, police officers and emergency workers killed in work zone accidents. The memorial also helps educate and informs the public regarding the rising number of work zone related accidents. We are accepting name submissions for the National Work Zone Memorial Wall through December 31, 2008.
“The Life Behind The Cones And Barrels – How Roadway Workers Keep America Moving Poster Contest" program- This contest helps educate young people of all ages by raising their awareness regarding the dangers of work zones. “Life Behind the Cones and Barrels-How Roadway Workers Keep America Moving Poster Contest” gives K-6 graders an opportunity to be artistic and draw their impressions of roadway work and workers. Posters will be accepted through March 15, 2009 with winners being announced in early May 2009.
The Foundation 2008 Work Zone Safety Calendar - The Foundation is proud to feature the winners of this year's poster contest in the "Life Behind the Cones and Barrels Work Zone Safety" calendar. ATSSA member companies are invited to order custom calendars.
