Course Description

Two days/16 hours; Classroom Course; Closed or Co-sponsored Option*

ATSSA is an approved provider for the Florida Department of Transportation Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic course.

This course is required for all persons with duties that include any of the following activities:

  • Direct responsibility of replacement of work zone traffic control devices,
  • Direct responsibility for field maintenance of work zone traffic control devices,
  • Inspection of the placement or operational function of work zone traffic control devices, or
  • Drafting or electronic generation of work zone traffic control plans.

NOTE: This course is recognized as ATSSA's TCT course even though the state mandates a different course title.

Prerequisites & State-Specific Information

Previous experience in temporary traffic control is not required for this course.

Completion of this course allows individuals to train flaggers to meet DOT requirements. Training materials may be ordered through ATSSA. Authorization to train ATSSA-Certified Flaggers requires successful completion of the ATSSA Florida Intermediate Training course and ATSSA’s Flagger Instructor Training (FIT).

Intended Audience: individuals involved in construction work zone projects, particularly technicians and field personnel

CEUs: 1.50 (Approved by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers)

Certification Information

After completing this course, take the next step in your career by adding an ATSSA certification designation.

Florida Intermediate Certification Requirements:

  • Pass the Florida Intermediate Course with 80% or greater on exam
  • Possess one year (2,000 hours) temporary traffic control experience
  • Complete the Certification Application and pay the Certification Fee
  • Provide two references to verify work experience
  • Be approved by the ATSSA Certification Board
