"Life Behind the Cones and Barrels - How Roadway Workers Keep America Moving National Poster Contest" Program

The Foundation's “Life Behind the Cones and Barrels – How Roadway Workers Keep America Moving Poster Contest"  program educates young people about work zone safety before they begin to drive. Educated future drivers in grades K-1, 2-4 and 5-6 document their impressions of roadway work and become advocates for safe work zone habits to their family members and friends. Winners receive cash prizes, with a matching gift going to each winner’s school. Enjoy the contest and good luck!

Suggested Poster Topics

Your poster should convey one or more of the following ideas:

"What To Do In A Work Zone"

    • Slow down, maintain posted speeds, and be patient.
    • Merge carefully and follow the directions of work zone signs and workers.
    • Stay in your lane!
    • Use your cellular phone's "voice mail".  The call can wait.
    • Focus on what is ahead of you and "expect the unexpected".
    • Turn lights on in work zones.
    • Display an orange ribbon on your vehicle to show your commitment to work zone safety.
