MASH 2009 Presentation is Available On-Line - An October FHWA presentation on AASHTO’s Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) 2009 has been posted at the “Resources” list of ATSSA.com. Significant changes in the new manual include an increase in mass of the small car and pickup truck, a revised TL-4 single unit truck test, an increase in impact angle of 25-degrees for the small car, and an increase in impact angle of 25-degrees for terminals and crash cushions. Funding 101 – Common Funding Sources for Safety Improvement Programs
The information in this document is intended to help identify and understand the most common funding sources used to implement Safety Programs. Often there are agencies that want to implement Safety Programs, but do not have the resources to do so. By becoming more knowledgeable about available funding resources, you can help grow your business. When you offer your services as an "unpaid grant writer", agencies will see you as an excellent resource and are more likely to ask your advice in the future. Sales growth comes about through a raised priority of safety on the local level.

Temporary Traffic Control Devices
The FHWA proposes to supplement its regulation that governs work zone safety and mobility in highway and street work zones to include conditions for the appropriate use of, and expenditure of funds for, uniformed law enforcement officers, positive protective measures between workers and motorized traffic, and installation and maintenance of temporary traffic control devices during construction, utility, and maintenance operations. The proposed changes are intended to decrease the likelihood of fatalities and injuries to workers who are exposed to motorized traffic (vehicles using the highway for purposes of travel) while working on Federal-aid highway projects. Event Planner (EP-101)
An event planner (EP-101) has been created by ATSSA to assist chapter members nationwide as they prepare for NWZAW and other community awareness activities. The document covers a wide variety of topics including advanced planning, effective partnerships, meetings, e-mail "groups," the importance of DOT public affairs, radio and television advertisements and basic media relations, including press releases and media advisories. To receive a copy of EP-101 after it is sent to ATSSA Chapters, e-mail James Baron with EP-101 in the subject line. EP-101 is also available to other associations and organizations.
OSHA Rules on Responsibilities for Payment Personnel Protective Equipment
On Nov. 15, OSHA published a new rule clarifying the employer/employee responsibilities for payment of personal protective equipment (PPE). The rulemaking affects most of OSHA's PPED standards and can be viewed by clicking here.
