Job Opportunity -- Signal Technician 

This is complex work that involves a combination of highly technical training and skills. Works independently, or as part of a crew, on daily activities under the direction of the Signal Supervisor as related to the operations and management of Douglas County's traffic signals. This position is in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Traffic Signal Operations workgroup of the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works Engineering. Entry Level Requirements - Generally a high school diploma or GED. Within one and one half years, employee must become familiar with the MUTCD and obtain certifications as an ATTSA Traffic Control Technician or IMSA Work Zone Specialist, IMSA Level I Sign & Markings and IMSA Level I Signals. IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Technician or Electrician certification is required within 2 ½ years. The ability to lift 70+ pounds, perform strenuous work for up to 10 hours a day and work at heights up to 50'. Possession of a valid CDL Class 'B' (Class 'A' preferred) driver's license. Job Opportunity -- Traffic System Timing Specialist

This position provides support to the arterial incident management and special event management functions of the Sarasota-Manatee Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC), by remotely implementing temporary signal timing changes in response to incidents and congestion on the regional arterial roadway system. This involves developing and/or implementing timing and coordination plans, coordinating with Traffic Engineering and Traffic Operations staff of the RTMC partner agencies, monitoring systems performance and detecting operational and maintenance problems. The preferred candidate will have experience with Trafficware central signal system management software or similar software; experience with Coordinated Signal Systems; experience with Naztec 980 controllers (including ATC), Tru-Traffic and Synchro/Simtraffic software programs.

High School graduate or equivalent required, Associates degree or related vocational courses/training certifications, with related electronic experience desired.  Minimum of four (4) years’ experience relating to signal system operation, including installation and programming of traffic signal controllers and related communication equipment. Minimum two years’ experience as IMSA Traffic Signal Level II Technician. IMSA or ATSSA Work Zone Safety (Intermediate Training) Certification. Valid Florida driver’s license.  A competitive salary within the range of $19.30 to $29.92 per hour is provided for the position with a negotiable starting salary depending on experience and qualifications. Job Opportunity -- Senior Signal Technician 

Work involves a combination of highly technical training and skills. May lead the daily activities of a crew or construction contractors under the general direction of the Traffic Signal Supervisor.  This position is in the ITS / Traffic Signal Operations division, which is under the Traffic Engineering / Traffic Operations Manager and the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. 

Requires a high school diploma or GED and three years of field experience and/or education involving the MUTCD. Ability to lift 70+ pounds, perform strenuous work for up to 10 hours a day and work at heights up to 50'. Possession of a valid CDL Class 'B' driver's license. Requires ATTSA Traffic Control Technician (TCT) Certification or IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification.  Requires IMSA Level I Signs and Markings certification and IMSA Level II Traffic Signal (Field) Technician certification. IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Electrician (Bench) Technician certification is preferred upon hire or ability to obtain within one year as condition of employment.
